NINETEEN THINGS IN MY NINETEENTH YEAR

With the date marking my nineteenth birthday over the last weekend (05.02), I decided what a better time to start a new niche for my blog.

I have been thinking for quite a while that I would love to expand my blog content and make it more personal and more of an outlet for my own life and creative ventures. So without further ado

Nineteen Things I Want to Do in my Nineteenth Year

  1. TRAVEL SOLO(ish)
Go on my first overseas trip – I have been fortunate enough to have been taken on five overseas holidays with my family and experience the world with them – four before I was even 18. I thank my parents for teaching me the value of travel and this year I am planning on my first overseas trip self-funded without them with me! Exciting and scary!
  2. TOUCH MY TOES
I can’t even remember the last time I could touch my toes without feeling like my hamstrings were going to snap. I have let both my flexibility and overall fitness decrease significantly and it has become embarrassing. I used to be super fit and athletic once, but now even walking to the bus stop has become a tiresome exercise.
  3. WRITE A SCRIPT (in full)
I am a film student and I am passionate about telling stories, and trust me, I have so many ideas running around my head but unfortunately I haven’t got down to writing. Aside from what is required at uni, I have become slack with working towards an end goal. I have a tendency to start multiple screenplays without ever finishing them.
  4. GET MY DRIVERS LICENCE
I don’t know how much longer I can put this off for.
  5. PUT MORE EFFORT IN CONNECTING
It is no secret that I am a little bit of an introvert but that in no way excuses the extent to which I shut myself off from the world. Whether it be friends, relationships, career or family, I need to go the extra mile to maintain those relationships that truly mean something to me. I need to build solid connections with those around me.
  6. GET AN INTERNSHIP
I have realised lately how much my skill set and experience is lacking. When my only recent experience is a job I have had my entire working life (aka 4 years), it is clear that I need to get myself out there. Which leads to…
  7. VOLUNTEER MORE
Both of my career interests – writing and filmmaking – depend on who you know and what you’ve worked on. I didn’t do anything in my first year to get my name known, and there is my first mistake. So whether it’d be for other student projects, festivals or events, I need to put the time in to get the payback.
  8. NAIL OTHER SKILL SETS
I am a firm believer in that you can never learn enough. I myself constantly find myself thinking of other skills that I can take on. Some of these include coding for web design, watercolour painting, hand lettering and digital illustration. Paaarrrtt of me wants to also learn a new language, but that will come in time.
  9. BE THE ORGANISED AND “ON TOP OF IT” PERSON I WAS DESTINED TO BE
Honestly, I have so many planners, notebooks, pens, post it notes and productivity applications I really don’t have an excuse. I find myself being overwhelmed during the semester and struggling to find the work/life/study balance and I am still so guilty of leaving things until the last minute.
  10. SPEND A DAY IN THE OUTDOORS
I cannot believe how much I have been lacking the outdoors. I have become a true hermit! I want to spend an entire day hiking, or walking, or just exploring.
  11. TAKE MORE PICTURES
Like, proper pictures of memorable stuff.
  12. REUNITE WITH OLD FRIENDS
I haven’t seen most of my old friends for over a year, and that really saddens me to think.
  13. READ MORE BOOKS
Aiming for at least one a month, reading used to be my favourite thing to do but it seems I’ve neglected that as well.
  14.  WATCH MORE FILMS
Convinced I am the worlds worst film student, I could not sit in a room of cinephiles and discuss the importance and meanings of classic and foreign films (or even popular films for that matter) that everybody has seemed to have seen.
  15. CHANGE MY HAIR
I get so bored of my hair so easily. Although I have had a few changes with my hair this year (chopping it short, dying it pink, dying it blonde/gold/brown), I feel as though another change is bound to happen. Fringe? Short again? What colour should I dye it?
  16. DO A MASS CLEANOUT
Also something that apparently happens often, I want to go through all of my stuff and rid everything that I don’t need or use any more and perhaps replace it with stuff that will be useful. Just too much stuff. I have read and watched a heap of videos and books on minimalism, maybe it is something I should try.
  17. FIND MY STYLE
I do not have a distinct style or a ‘trademark’. I’ll be wearing ballet flats and a skirt one day, to t-shirts and converse the next. Maybe this isn’t something that is important to have in my list, let’s be real, I am always changing.
  18. TAKE CARE OF MYSELF
You know, develop a healthy skin regime, drink more water, keep my room clean, eat better, exercise, sleep more, ra ra ra.
  19. COMMIT TO MY BLOG
Blogging is something that I have always wanted to do – I remember my first Tumblr, and I remember all of my failed attempts at starting a blog. To make this blog successful would be incredible so I have to keep at it!

What’s your bucket list for the next year? I’d love to hear!
